Mo Ali has officially wrapped directing on Verdee, BBC One’s upcoming drama series, taking the reins for episodes 5 and 6 — the two episodes that bring the story to its conclusion.
For Mo, being trusted with the finale was both a challenge and a privilege.
“Directing the last two episodes of Verdee was a huge responsibility,” he said. “So much of the story builds up to that point, and I knew the audience would be looking for an ending that feels powerful and honest. My goal was to make sure the drama kept people on the edge of their seats but also gave them something real to connect with.”
The series follows Detective Inspector Harry Virdee, a committed cop navigating an increasingly volatile case while also dealing with turmoil in his personal life.
Mo explained that the final chapters of Verdee were written with high stakes and emotional weight, which made directing them especially rewarding.
“Finales are always special because you’re pulling together everything that’s been set up. There’s tension, twists, but also those quiet moments that give the story its heart. I love that balance — the big scale and the small details.”
He spoke warmly about the collaboration on set:
“The cast gave such strong performances, especially in those final scenes where the pressure is at its peak. Watching them bring their characters to life in such raw and powerful ways made my job exciting. And the crew — they were incredible. Everyone pushed themselves to make sure we delivered something memorable.”
Completing Verdee is another step in Mo Ali’s growing career in television. Fresh off his acclaimed work on Cobra: Series 3, Mo continues to establish himself as a director capable of delivering both high-stakes drama and grounded, human storytelling.
Verdee is expected to air on BBC One soon, with Mo’s episodes closing out the debut season.
